The Builder Who Paused

At the edge of a growing village stood an empty field covered in tall grass. For years, people had passed by it without giving it much thought. But one morning, a man named Eliab stood at the center of the field with a vision in his heart.

He could already see the finished work.

He imagined strong walls, open doors, and a place where people would gather, learn, and find hope. The vision felt so real that he was tempted to begin building that very day.

As Eliab walked through the field, he noticed an old stone partially buried beneath the ground. Carved into it were the words:

“What is built with wisdom will remain.”

The words caused him to pause.

Instead of rushing to gather wood and stone, Eliab sat down beneath a nearby tree. He began to write. He considered the purpose of the building, the people it would serve, the materials it would require, and the cost of completing it.

Days passed before the first stone was laid.

Some people laughed at him.

“You said you were going to build,” they told him. “Why are you still sitting there planning?”

Eliab simply replied, “I am not delaying the vision. I am preparing it to stand.”

When the building was finally completed, a great storm came through the village. The winds shook the trees, rain filled the roads, and several unfinished structures collapsed.

But Eliab’s building remained.

The mystery was not in the strength of the stones. It was in the wisdom that came before them.

A strong vision may begin with inspiration, but it is sustained through preparation. Before you build, sit down, seek wisdom, and count the cost. What you prepare carefully today may become the very thing that stands tomorrow.
